On July 5, 2023, a donation signing ceremony for the “Yunjing Lecture Hall” was convened by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Design and the Shanghai Minhang Real Estate Group. The event took place at the Design Building of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

In front of the honored guests, Shanghai Minhang Real Estate Group Chair and General Manager HUA Yundi, Secretary-General of the Education Development Foundation and Director of the Development Liaison Office of Shanghai Jiao Tong University CHENG Jiaojie, and Design School Dean Ruan Xing signed the donation agreement on behalf of their respective parties. Secretary of the CPC SJTU Committee YANG Zhenbin presented a donation certificate to the Shanghai Minhang Real Estate Group on behalf of the University.

The Yunjing Lecture Hall is located on the second floor of the Design Building at the Minhang Campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. It has a total area of about 245 square meters and can accommodate 226 people at one time. It has advanced functions, complete facilities, and advanced technological capabilities. It is suitable for holding various meetings, conferences and activities.

In the context of both the transformation from “Made in China” to “Created in China” and Shanghai's construction of a world-class “City of Design”, Shanghai Jiao Tong University has seized the time, and grasped the forefront opportunities of the era. At the end of 2017, the university integrated the top-level resources found in the design disciplines across the institution, and amalgamated three disciplines to establish the School of Design. Subsequently, the Shanghai Minhang Real Estate Group has generously donated a total of 10 million yuan to support the development of the School of Design.

On behalf of the Shanghai Minhang Real Estate Group, Chair and General Manager HUA Yundi expressed his gratitude to Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the School of Design for the parties’ long-lasting friendly cooperation and for their strong support of the enterprise. He said that Shanghai Jiao Tong University, as a century-old renowned institution, is well-known both at home and abroad. It has cultivated many leaders throughout the country and has also provided a large number of outstanding talented individuals for development in enterprise.

The name for the new lecture hall: “Yunjing” means good weather and good harvest. It also represents technology and fashion, and is imbued with the significance of wisdom and longing for the future. The School of Design’s naming of the lecture hall “Yunjing”, both serves to honor the cooperating enterprise, and is also intended to constantly encourage the enterprise. This donation represents a new phase in the cooperation between the school and the enterprise，one that is deeper, broader, and at a higher level than before.

On behalf of the school, Secretary of the CPC SJTU Committee, Yang Zhenbin expressed his sincere gratitude to the Shanghai Minhang Real Estate Group for its long-term support for the development of education at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. At the same time, he affirmed the remarkable achievements made over the past five years by the School of Design in educating future professionals, and in conducting scientific research, social services, design practice and internationalization.

On behalf of the School of Design, Dean Ruan Xing expressed sincere gratitude to the Shanghai Minhang Real Estate Group for its continued support and trust in the development of the School of Design and the design disciplines. He said that the design building is the “home” of all faculty and students, and also carries the hope of becoming the “home” for all of Jiao Tong—a campus hall that breaks boundaries standing in the way of cross-disciplinary work and interpersonal communication.

The college highly anticipates working hand in hand with the Shanghai Minhang Real Estate Group. This is a collaboration that embodies the design values of Jiao Tong University, that inherits and transmits the school’s cultural spirit, and realizes a “win-win” relationship that ensures mutual development.
